  • Gain Control
    • Recommend setting manually as it determines how loud the signal is prior to processing
    • Adjust so that the audio meter averages between -18db and -12db.
  • Audio Setting
    • Use Wav format at 48k sample rate with 24bit depth to provide high quality audio with manageable file sizes.
    • Avoid recording with MP3 as it reduces audio quality through compression.
  • Locut Filter
    • Use 80hz to reduce low frequencies and rumble related to handling of the device and wind noise.
    • Setting higher values will exclude more low frequencies and can help with heavy wind. However, from 160hz it can filter the frequencies of the human voice and make the sound tinny.
    • Can be turned off in controlled environments to ensre you capture the full range of frequencies.
  • Limiter
    • Prevents audio from clipping by limiting the audio signal exceeding 6db.
    • However, under certain circumstances using the limiter can raise the floor of the recording. In a controlled environment it is advisable to switch it off.
  • Auto level
    • Disables the gain knob on the top of the device and sets the gain automatically. This is useful when you don't have control over sound conditions which may be variable.
    • However, generally recommend setting gain manually as you typically don't want the gain constantly changing in recordings.
